Situational analysis of PMTCT services in Region E of the Eastern Cape |
|
| On 2 November 2002 the PMTCT programme to reduce the transmission of HIV from mothers to children in Region E of the Eastern Cape was launched. This was a special occasion and strong commitments were made in the speeches and affirmations of the programme. A lot of progress was made in a very short time to get an under-resourced health service to mobilise to the point where they were close to being able to provide the service at the time of the launch. Many acknowledged that there were gaps in the services and made commitments to rapidly address these so as not to disadvantage the work. This situational analysis is set at the period immediately prior to the launch, so some of the problems raised here may have been addressed with the passing of time. Much of the general context of the work, however, remains applicable.Owner: SAHA (HSRC) |
