1st SAHARA conference

This conference was held in Pretoria, South Africa from 2 - 4 September 2002. The aims of the conference were to:

  • Brief researchers, policy and decision makers, donors and other interested stakeholders on the work of the Social Aspects of HIV/AIDS Research Alliance (SAHARA).
  • Share emerging results from research sites in Africa on the social aspects of HIV/AIDS research, including scientific evaluation of HIV/STD prevention activities, and lessons learnt in the course of implementing different programmes.
  • Strengthen relationships, collaboration, and coordination of SAHARA, and to establish an effective, broad-based research network of committed research partners to conduct or support quality research necessary for urgent policy planning and implementation.
