Obioma holds a Bachelors Degree in Zoology with a speciality in parasitology from the University of Nigeria Nsukka, and a PhD in parasitology from the University of Cambridge in the UK. She is a professor and head of the Department of Parasitology and Entomology, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Nigeria, and the Executive Director/President of the Global Health Awareness Research Foundation (GHARF) Enugu, a non-governmental organisation involved in sexuality and reproductive health issues and rights including HIV and AIDS among youth and women. She was a technical officer and Global Health Fellow at Roll Back Malaria (RBM) at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva; Director of the Biotechnology Centre and Enugu State University of Science and Technology in Nigeria; and a Takeni fellow of the Department of International Health, Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, USA. She is a member of the National Steering Committee on Malaria Drugs Policy and chairman of the sub-committee on proposal writing at the National Committee on Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD). She has authored over 40 research publications and monographs and has served as a principal investigator and consultant for numerous international and national NGOs and governments in Africa and elsewhere. |
